A dog requires good food, water, shelter and daily exercise. Because they are pack animals they need companionship.
They also need regular vaccinations, flea and worming treatments and to be desexed to stop so many unwanted puppies being born.
Under New Zealand law dogs must be registered and microchipped and exercised for at least 30 minutes a day.
Cats need fresh water and cat food that is right for their age and weight. If your cat uses a litterbox it must be kept clean.
If it has long fur it will need regular brushing. Cats also need to be vaccinated and desexed.
